Anti Wabi-Sabi or | RAYARD MIYASHITA PARK / Tokyo 2021
From June 18th to 23rd, 2021, spanning six transformative days, the cultural nexus, OR (located in MIYASHITA PARK, Shibuya), played host to a solo exhibition by the ceramic artist, Mr. Takahiro Koga. His provocative theme "Anti-Wabi-Sabi." Merely inheriting the shell of tradition does not birth new culture. While deeply respecting traditional aesthetic values, Koga audaciously challenges conventions with the antithetical concept of "Anti-Wabi-Sabi" in this exhibit. It is often adversity that sparks a counter-movement against entrenched cultural norms, which in turn becomes the new tradition. Currently, the world is grappling with the adversity of the COVID-19 pandemic. It stands to reason then, that the stirring of a new cultural shift can be felt in the air. From the heart of Shibuya, a beacon rises, signaling the "Anti-Wabi-Sabi" movement to establish the traditions of the next era. "Creativity cannot be restrained."
